Every year, thousands of people pack up their life in Dubai and head to the UK — for a new job in London, a university offer in Manchester, or simply to be closer to family. It’s an exciting move, but it’s also a long checklist: visas, shipping, schools, housing, the lot.
At Sparkle Relocations, moving to the UK from Dubai is one of our most requested international routes. We’ve built our international relocation services around handling the logistics — packing, shipping, and customs — so you can focus on the part that actually matters: settling in.

The pull is different for everyone. Some are chasing a role in finance, tech, or healthcare that simply isn’t available in the UAE. Others want their kids in a UK school system, or they’re heading back after years abroad. And the flight isn’t even the hard part — Dubai to London is around seven hours direct, so you’re never that far from either place.
What tends to catch people off guard is the sheer amount of admin. A UK move involves more paperwork than most GCC-to-GCC relocations, and the visa route you take shapes almost everything else — where you can live, how fast you can bring your family, even how your shipment gets cleared. Worth sorting out early.
Here’s something people often miss: your visa requirement depends on your passport, not on where you currently live. An Indian, Pakistani, or Filipino passport holder based in Dubai still needs a full UK visa, even though UAE residency itself isn’t the deciding factor. Emirati passport holders, on the other hand, only need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for short visits — that’s been the rule since February 2026.
The main routes for UAE-based movers are:
for a confirmed job offer from a UK employer. As of the April 2026 fee update, this runs £819 for up to three years, on top of the Immigration Health Surcharge (£1,035 per adult, per year). Most roles need a salary around £41,700 or above.
for joining a partner or family member already settled in the UK. Entry clearance fees sit at £2,064.
£558, plus proof of maintenance funds (£1,483/month for London, £1,136/month elsewhere).
£135, valid for up to six months, for short trips rather than relocation.
the settlement step after several years on a qualifying visa, currently £3,226 per applicant.
London is expensive — no way around that. A one-bedroom flat in central London tends to run £1,900–£2,400 a month, while the same size place in Manchester, Birmingham, or Leeds is often £900–£1,300. If your job allows it, cities outside London stretch your budget considerably further without giving up much in terms of career options.
Most tenants rent before buying, and for good reason: the UK rental market moves fast, and you’ll want to see a neighbourhood in person before committing. Council tax is a separate monthly cost that catches a lot of newcomers off guard — it varies by local authority and property band, so it’s worth checking before you sign a lease.
The National Health Service (NHS) provides free care at the point of use, funded through National Insurance contributions and the Immigration Health Surcharge visa holders pay upfront. Once you’re registered with a local GP practice, most day-to-day healthcare is covered. Private healthcare exists alongside it — many employer packages include private cover, which shortens waiting times for non-urgent treatment.
Once the visa side is sorted, our job starts. We survey your home, pack everything to export standard, and choose between air freight (faster, better for smaller shipments) or sea freight (more economical for full households). Every shipment goes through UK customs clearance and documentation, and we cover it under transit insurance so you’re not carrying that risk alone.
If your new home in the UK isn’t ready when your shipment lands, we can hold your belongings in secure storage until you are. And if you’re bringing the whole household — kids, pets, the works — our family relocation service and pet relocation team coordinate the parts that usually cause the most stress on moving day.
Moving from Dubai to the UK involves a lot of moving parts, but you don't have to manage them alone. Tell us about your move — where you're headed, how much you're shipping, and your timeline — and we'll put together a plan that fits.

It depends mainly on shipment volume and whether you choose air or sea freight. A studio or one-bedroom household typically costs less than a full four-bedroom shipment. Get a personalised quote and we'll break down the exact cost for your move.
Sea freight generally takes four to six weeks door to door, including UK customs clearance. Air freight is much faster — often five to ten days — but costs more per kilo, so it suits smaller or time-sensitive shipments.
Usually, yes. Visa requirements are based on your passport nationality, not your UAE residency. Emirati passport holders need only an ETA for short stays; most other nationalities need a full visa for work, study, or family reunification.
We're moving specialists, not immigration lawyers, but we can point you toward the right documentation checklist and coordinate our shipping timeline around your visa approval so nothing arrives before you do.
Yes. The UK requires a valid pet passport or health certificate, microchipping, rabies vaccination, and (depending on origin country) a tapeworm treatment before entry. Our pet relocation team manages the paperwork and travel booking end to end.
We offer short and long-term storage in Dubai, and can also coordinate storage on the UK side through our partner network, so your belongings stay safe until your move-in date.
Yes, most professional relocation services provide shipment tracking options. This allows you to monitor the status and location of your belongings during transit. It gives peace of mind throughout the relocation process.
Start by planning early, organizing your belongings, and completing all required documentation. Decluttering unnecessary items can also reduce costs. Working with experienced international movers ensures a smooth and stress-free relocation.
